Zerto provides data protection software for virtualized infrastructure and containerized and cloud environments. Its main product, Zerto Virtual Replication (ZVR), was released in August 2011. ZVR is the foundation of the Zerto Platform, which was announced in May 2018. The Zerto Platform provides continuous data protection (CDP), including backup, disaster recovery (DR) and long-term retention (LTR) by capturing I/O traces through a filter driver and writing them to a remote log.
On Sept. 1, 2021, HPE acquired Zerto. One result of the acquisition is HPE’s integration into GreenLake, HPE’s as-a-service platform and control plane. Effective June 2023, Zerto will be delivered as HPE GreenLake Disaster Recovery, alongside the HPE GreenLake Backup and Recovery offering that is based on HPE StoreOnce code. The GreenLake Disaster Recovery offerings are covered in Evaluator Group’s Backup-as-a-Service research, and HPE StoreOnce appliances are covered in Evaluator Group’s Data Protection Systems coverage.
Usage and Deployment
Zerto Platform provides backup, disaster recovery, and workload mobility for virtualized and containerized on-premises and public cloud-based environments. Journaling and replication of data provides the foundation of Zerto’s ability to deliver these functionalities.
