Pure Storage and Cohesity have launched a new jointly developed and integrated solution, “Pure FlashRecoverTM, Powered by CohesityⓇ,” as well as joint go-market efforts for the new offering. The intent is to better address requirements for fast recovery at scale (e.g. ransomware recovery) and data re-use (e.g. DevOps) through integrating Pure Storage’s flash storage with Cohesity’s data protection software.
Pure FlashRecoverTM, Powered by CohesityⓇ integrates Cohesity’s DataProtect data protection software with Pure Storage’s FlashBlade flash-based unified file and object storage. Cohesity DataProtect runs on Cohesity-certified compute nodes without local storage that connect to Pure FlashBlade via the NFS protocol.
The solution is delivered as a pre-configured appliance with a disaggregated, scale-out architecture that allows compute and storage to be scaled independently. To further streamline the user experience, new nodes are automatically discovered and configured, and the solution includes non-disruptive upgrades. Data tiering is possible through native integration with S3 and NFS-compatible clouds including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure. As a part of the arrangement, Pure Storage has become a Cohesity Technology Partner.
From the perspective of customer engagement, Pure FlashRecoverTM, Powered by CohesityⓇ is sold through Pure Storage, and the storage vendor also serves as the single point of technical support. Cohesity DataProtect has been added to Pure Storage’s price list and is now sold through Pure partners. Beta availability is slated for early September 2020, and general availability is slated for Q4 C2020.

Pure FlashRecoverTM, Powered by CohesityⓇ stands to address the need for business continuity and fast recovery at scale for the tier of enterprise workloads that can tolerate minimal (if any) downtime. Restoring to the flash-hosted primary data versus instant mounting from backup copies allows for faster performance. For example, it can accelerate recovery of mission-critical databases like Microsoft SQL and Oracle that require a full restore to get back into consistency. Fast recovery at scale is especially important in the face of ransomware attacks that, in some instances, are creating unacceptable recovery times of days or weeks.
In addition to data protection, Pure FlashRecoverTM, Powered by CohesityⓇ can address data reuse use cases. For example, DevOps teams require on demand (automated and self-service) access to application consistent, fast-performing copies of production databases.
