Last updated December 21st, 2018 for annual review and updates. Concise and unbiased 6-page overview of the features and functionality of Igneous Hybrid Storage Cloud. Includes overview, usage and deployment and Eval(u)Scale reviewing methodology and more.

Igneous Systems was started in October 2013 with veterans from Isilon and NetApp and was launched three years later in October 2016. Their product, Igneous Hybrid Storage Cloud, is modern scale-out solution designed for backup, archiving and cloud tiering of unstructured file data. It is designed to provide data management for many billions of files and multiple petabytes of data. Igneous is focused on file data only and not on the protection of VMs or databases. The Igneous Hybrid Storage Cloud solution is delivered as-a-Service including the hardware and software components, installation and remote management.

Igneous combines data protection with archival and copy data management to create a secondary storage system that can replace multiple purpose-built systems. Igneous Hybrid Storage Cloud can perform backup and archive of file data from Network Attached Storage (NAS) via NFS or SMB to its own native object store. In addition, applications can read from and write to the Igneous object store directly via the S3 API.

The major features of Igneous Hybrid Storage Cloud are included in three areas – Storage, Backup and Archive, which are described in the following paragraphs.
