The Huawei OceanStor 18000 is a family of scale-out storage systems targeted at high-end enterprises with a common architecture, physical packaging, and embedded software. The OceanStor line has models that differ in hardware configuration and in the number of controllers supported and has additional offerings that target the high-end and entry-level segments. There is also an all solid-state system, which is covered in separate ESR documents. All models utilize modular architecture, standard racks and enclosures and support 2.5” SFF and 3.5” LFF device enclosures. The OceanStor 18000 systems support block access.

All models run the same base embedded software system and support additional add-on software features. The Huawei OceanStor high-end systems compete against EMC VMAX³, NetApp FAS, IBM DS8000, Hitachi VSP G1000, and HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 systems.

The Huawei OceanStor high-end systems support block storage access over FC, iSCSI, and FCoE. In the scale-out configuration, up to sixteen controllers are supported with a high speed interconnect using PCIe switches. The controllers are housed with two controllers in a 4U enclosure. 2U device enclosures support twelve 3.5” form factor devices or twenty-five 2.5” form factor devices. A high-density device enclosure houses 75 devices in a 4U form factor.
