The Hitachi Protection Platform (HPP) appliances provide the opportunity for consistent, end-to-end data protection throughout the enterprise.

The HPP S2700 is a grid architecture disk-based backup appliance that can scale capacity and performance independently for enterprise environments. The HPP S1500 is a fixed performance/capacity integrated 2U appliance for remote/branch offices.

Using standard Hitachi storage on the backend and supporting major backup applications on the front end, HPP requires no client or host agents.

HPP uses delta-differencing deduplication to increase performance and useable capacity. The data to be deduplicated can be selected by application, backup server, or backup software. Deduplication can also be tuned by data type.

A single interface is provided for monitoring and managing backup, deduplication, replication, and capacity utilization.

Tape library emulation includes those from HP, Quantum, and Oracle. Tape drive emulation includes those from HP, IBM, Quantum, Sony, and Oracle.
