The FalconStor FreeStor Storage Server (FSS) is a storage solution that allows heterogeneous server and storage attachment with a wide range of data services. Support for multiple storage protocols including Fibre Channel and iSCSI from the same storage pool as virtual LUNs for servers is accomplished through the storage virtualization capabilities introduced with the FSS software.

The FalconStor FreeStor Storage Server is a logical successor to the earlier Network Storage Server (NSS) product that built on the original software called IPSTOR. FreeStor contains a new implementation that FalconStor calls the Intelligent Abstraction engine. The advanced features offered by FalconStor have been integrated into FSS.

FalconStor Software Inc. develops storage-networking software solutions based around a symmetrical pooling abstraction computing element. FalconStor was founded in 2000 and has its corporate headquarters in Melville, New York. They currently have international offices in Paris and Taiwan. FalconStor offers storage virtualization, virtual tape, and replication products that have been on the market since February 2001.
