Last updated June 10th, 2019 for updates to EvaluScale table. Concise and unbiased 7-page overview of the features and functionality of EMC Data Domain.

The Dell EMC Data Domain system is a deduplication system that is used for backup, compliance archiving, and long-term storage. There are a wide range of EMC Data Domain models to cover the spectrum from remote office, mid-sized organizations and large enterprises. Data Domain systems are offered as appliances, paired systems for global deduplication, and as an archiving system. Virtual Tape Library mode enables the Data Domain to act like a tape system in addition to the NAS access. The published Deduplication results are from 10 to 30x but depend greatly on the data being deduplicated. Key to the technology is the ability to deduplicate data inline during the transfer to the disk storage connected to the Data Domain controller. The EMC Data Domain systems established the market for backup to disk systems and have been widely deployed.

The wide range of Dell EMC Data Domain systems includes a virtual appliance – DD VE, an entry level appliance – DD3300, two midrange appliances – DD6300 and DD6800, and two high-end appliances – DD9300 and DD9800. These models provide a range of performance and capacity characteristics as well as Cloud Tier connectivity.
