Dell EMC FS8600 – Product Brief

Last updated September 3rd, 2019 for updates to EvaluScale table. Concise and unbiased 6-page overview of the features and functionality of Dell FS8600.

The Dell FS8600 is a scale-out NAS system providing high performance NFS and CIFS access. It uses paired controllers called nodes and SC (Compellent) storage arrays and can scale with additional controller pairs. In addition to the file access through the controllers, block access using Fibre Channel or iSCSI is available directly to the SC arrays used in the FS8600. The FS8600 attaches to the SC storage using Fibre Channel.

The FS8600 controllers are custom Dell systems that have the Dell Fluid File System (DFFS) installed. DFFS comes from the acquisition of Exanet by Dell and is a mature, high-performance distributed file system. DFFS is capable of supporting very large capacities and can support up to 4PB in a single namespace.
