Dell EMC NetWorker has a long history in the enterprise data protection and recovery market through the different vendors that have owned the technology prior to acquisition. Offered as backup and recovery software or as a Virtual Edition to create a virtual appliance, NetWorker supports protection of a wide range of source data to a variety of targets.

Centralizing data protection across different types of data and across different environments from large enterprises to small offices has been the goal of NetWorker. Dell EMC has extended capabilities to include cloud, both as source and target for NetWorker and accelerated transfer to cloud with Dell EMC Data Domain.

Source data for protection comes from block storage systems, file servers, NAS (including support for NDMP), cloud environments, and multiple hypervisors with virtual machines such as VMware, Hyper-V, Solaris Zones, IBM LPARs, Xen, HP VPAR, and Solaris LDOM.
