The Dell EMC Integrated Data Protection Appliance (IDPA) is an all-in-one, converged data protection solution that includes storage hardware, data protection software, search capabilities, analytics and cloud readiness under centralized management and a single user interface. There are a wide range of IDPA models that cover the spectrum from remote office, mid-sized organizations and large enterprises.
A number of Dell technologies go into the IDPA architecture including Dell PowerEdge servers, PowerProtect DD (formerly Data Domain) inline deduplication, VMware, Avamar backup software and Data Protection Advisor along with many other components. All these components are pre-installed and configured into an appliance for simple and rapid deployment. The IDPA architecture also includes the use of flash for improving the performance of data access and instant recoveries of individual files to complete VMs on the IDPA appliance.
Dell EMC has a lot of experience with data deduplication and years of real-life deduplication results. The published deduplication rates for IDPA are 55:1 but as always, depend greatly on the data being deduplicated and the data protection strategy used. They will guarantee that level of deduplication for qualified customers with their Future-Proof Loyalty Program.
The wide range of Dell EMC IDPA systems includes an entry level appliance – DP4400, two midrange appliances – DP5300 and DP5800, and two high-end appliances – DP8300 and DP8800. These models provide a range of performance and capacity characteristics and include Cloud Tier connectivity.
