Dell EMC DataIQ – Product Brief

Dell EMC’s DataIQ software provides unstructured data cataloging, analytics, self-service migration, and lifecycle management. It was launched by Dell EMC in June 2020 as an integration of the company’s ClarityNow data analytics and management software (acquired in 2018 through Dell EMC’s purchase of DataFrameworks), and its Insight IQ performance monitoring and analysis software for its Isilon (now re-branded as Dell EMC PowerScale) storage arrays.

DataIQ supports Dell EMC unstructured storage systems as sources, including ECS, PowerScale and Unity. It also supports third-party unstructured data sources including AWS and Google public cloud repositories and S3 buckets. The software indexes metadata across these sources to facilitate unified visibility and control. Customers can obtain insight into where their data is stored and how is it being used. Administrators and users can leverage this insight to make more informed decisions on data management for cost optimization. Additionally, DataIQ provides insight into the performance of PowerScale clusters.

DataIQ is oriented towards business projects and workflows. For example, data can be tagged as pertaining to a particular project, to be then located and archived or deleted by a user when the project is complete (as opposed to more “regular” intervals such as file age). Additionally, IT can better identify, track and analyze data associated with a particular requirement (for example, providing visibility into storage consumption patterns as well as the ability to make intelligent decisions like providing high-performance storage to high-priority projects
