Commvault Complete Data Protection combines the vendor’s stand-alone Backup and Recovery and Disaster Recovery offerings into a software suite. Primarily targeted at large enterprises, the software facilitates backup, recovery and archive across a wide range of source data from different storage systems, the cloud, applications and databases, and endpoints.
Commvault also integrates the software with its Hedvig software-defined storage, creating scale-out appliances called Commvault HyperScale X (see Evaluator Group’s separate HyperScale X Product Brief).
Commvault Complete includes integrated file and email archiving software and uses a common database for retaining and tracking all information. The software is built on a single, unified code base and a common virtual repository (database). This repository keeps track of data whether that data lives on tape or block on-premises storage systems, or the cloud.
Source data for protection includes block storage systems, file servers, network-attached storage NAS devices (including support for the Network Data Management Protocol), and multiple hypervisors with virtual machines. Additionally, Commvault Complete supports protection of data in persistent containers.
Current and popular operating systems are supported, including multiple variations of Linux, versions of Microsoft Windows, and UNIX systems AIX, HP-UX, and Solaris. Endpoint protection is also offered, allowing Commvault Complete to provide centralized data protection and consistent service level agreements (SLAs) across the enterprise. Users can employ SLA-driven backup and disaster recovery policies for enhanced protection. Operational reporting is made possible through integration with the Commvault Command Center.
