Cohesity DataPlatform – Product Brief

Last updated December 6th, 2019 for end of year updates. Concise and unbiased 7-page overview of the features and functionality of Cohesity DataPlatform. Includes overview, usage and deployment and EvaluScale reviewing methodology and more.

Cohesity DataPlatform is a distributed, highly scalable storage system designed to function as a consolidation point for a variety of secondary data storage types and as an integrated backup solution. It has a clustered, scale-out architecture with each node providing storage capacity, processing power and networking connectivity to the system.
The DataPlatform has extensive data optimization features including global, variable-length deduplication (in-line and post-process), compression and erasure coding, plus real-time analytics, automated global indexing, encryption, replication and DR orchestration. The company’s SnapTree technology provides consistent, low-latency data recovery, regardless of the number of snapshots taken.
In “Target Mode” the DataPlatform can be used as a backup storage system, replacing conventional deduplication appliances. Presenting itself as an NFS target, the system connects with third party data protection solutions such as CommVault, Veritas, Veeam, and Dell EMC (Networker and Avamar).
In “Integrated Mode” Cohesity can provide a complete data protection system with the addition of DataProtect. This software module includes built-in services for backup and recovery without requiring a separate backup application. Cohesity can be used in both Target and Integrated Modes for different data sets, simultaneously.
