Last updated April 12th, 2019 for minor changes. An in-depth 16 page report on the features and functionality of the Cloudian HyperStore.

Cloudian HyperStore is an object storage system that is offered as a software-only solution or as a complete appliance building block for scaling object storage. The Cloudian software originated from an implementation in Japan and is offered through Lenovo and business partners.

As an object storage system, Cloudian HyperStore has focused on the prevalent S3 market with a full implementation of the various feature sets in the protocol. In addition, Cloudian also offers their own file system implementation called Connect for Files for file access from physical or virtual appliances connected to the S3 storage of HyperStore. The file system is optimized for performance and feature enablement with the HyperStore S3 storage.

With many advanced features and a full complement of the basic requirements for object storage, Cloudian provides alternatives to solutions that were early entrants in the object storage market place. Key competitors include IBM Cloud Object Storage, Scality Ring, Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage, Cloudian HyperStore, DDN WOS, and HGST ActiveScale.
