New research from Evaluator Group determines how HCIs fit in enterprise environments, which applications they are supporting and how they’re being chosen, plus where enterprise IT is NOT using HCI solutions and why.
Hyperconverged Infrastructures (HCIs) have enjoyed significant success over the past several years, partly building on the appeal of Converged Infrastructure (CI) solutions. Like CIs, they shorten the timeframe and reduce the effort required to deploy new infrastructures. As HCI technologies mature, their adoption is being seen in more enterprise-level companies and in more critical use cases.
“It is clear from our conversations with enterprise clients that hyperconverged has their attention and is being examined as an option for many use cases,” said Camberley Bates, Managing Director of Evaluator Group. “That said, the adoption still seems to have a trial and error flow. We expect this market to mature and evolve to meet the demands of enterprises.”
Evaluator Group’s new research study, “Hyperconverged Infrastructure in the Enterprise”, was created by conducting an incisive survey and in-depth interviews with enterprise administrators who are running HCIs, conducting or planning hyperconverged infrastructure initiatives, as well as those who have no HCI intentions. From these data points came an illuminating view of how hyperconverged infrastructures fit in the enterprise, where they’re being used and how companies choose one solution over another. The study also helps explain where HCIs may not be the best solution and why not.
While a number of significant conclusions were drawn from the data captured, several key findings stood out. These included:
“HCIs are no longer at the kids’ table in enterprise IT”, according to Eric Slack, Sr. Analyst at Evaluator Group. “Almost 90% of respondents said HCIs were appropriate for enterprise environments. While performance and economics were the top decision factors, we found out some surprising things about how enterprise IT views HCI performance.”
