Short Description:
he NetApp SnapLock feature for Data ONTAP on NetApp filers creates volumes presented as file system shares or mount points that are archive targets with file-based policies for retention management
Full Summary:
The NetApp SnapLock is an add-on license to Data ONTAP and not a standalone system. Because of the capabilities of meeting compliance and governance requirements for archiving, the NetApp SnapLock feature with Data ONTAP and NetApp filers is being covered in the Archiving Systems section of the Evaluator Group ES/OL while the base NetApp systems are covered in the NAS section.
NetApp SnapLock allows volumes to be configured that implement retention policy and control management at the file level for files moved to those volumes. A software-based WORM capability is enabled for those volumes at creation time. There are two modes of operation which are created by configuring the volumes into one mode or the other: SnapLock Enterprise and SnapLock Compliance.
NetApp licenses the SnapLock feature for NetApp filers to provide archiving compliance capabilities on their standard filer systems. The SnapLock volumes may coexist with other non-compliance volumes on the same system.
