The IBM Information Archive is a system offered as an archiving solution that is an integration of IBM software and hardware products.  The software elements come pre-installed on the hardware to deliver an integrated data retention solution.  The Information Archive is used as archive storage for records, documents, and other information according to policies meant for compliance and content management.  Applications can directly store and access data on the Information Archive and the Information Archive can be a target for migration software.  The Information Archive replaces the earlier IBM DR550 product offering.

The IBM software elements integrated for the Information Archive include Tivoli Storage Manager, System Storage Archive Manager, General Parallel File System, Systems Director, RSM for Information Archive, and the DS Storage Manager.  The base operating system used is a version of Linux offered by IBM.  The hardware elements used for the Information Archive include IBM System-x servers, DS3950 disk storage systems, 19-inch racks, and Ethernet switches.
