Short Description:

Discussion on Big Data Analytics and EMC's Greenplum announcement

Full Summary:

As promised, EMC’s newly formed Data Computing Products division has announced the availability of a Big Data-capable, business analytics platform based on Greenplum technology. It’s called, simply enough, the DCA for Data Computing Appliance.

The Greenplum DCA integrates hardware — servers that function as both front and back-end processors, high-speed internal networking gear, and storage — with the Greenplum business analytics engine.  EMC now joins an elite group of business analytics systems providers that includes IBM/Netezza, Oracle, and Teradata with comparable, pre-integrated systems.

We believe the emergence of these business analytics systems represents a significant milestone in the evolution of computing. While they are typically positioned as the next transformative step in data warehousing, they have the potential to deliver new types of information that will change and expand the way enterprises derive value from computational systems.
