On January 18, 2011, EMC announced a complete refresh of its CLARiiON and Celerra midrange disk array product lines. Called the VNX, this new series of “unified” arrays features simultaneous support for both block and file-based storage protocols coupled with the ability to run EMC’s Flare and DART operating systems concurrently. There are seven new “unified” models starting with an entry-level, 2U high VNXe 3100 system priced below $10,000, up to the high-end VNX7500 model that supports up to 1,000 disk drives in a single system. While the VNX series functionally replaces both the CLARiiON and Celerra lines, EMC will continue to sell, service and support these products in the field for the foreseeable future. VNXe and VNX systems are orderable now with availability at the end of March, 2011.
