Short Description:
Analysis of the EMC Celerra product family of storage systems providing both file-based and block storage
Full Summary:
The EMC Celerra is a family of storage systems providing both file-based and block storage. Termed Unified Storage, the Celerra uses Control Stations to manage the system and plug-in cards called X-Blades running the DART (Data Access in Real Time) operating system for managing file access as a NAS system. The integrated version of the Celerra system includes a CLARiiON storage system for both the backend storage for the NAS element and direct access block storage using Fibre Channel. The gateway version of Celerra uses external CLARiiON or Symmetrix storage systems to provide the storage resources. Celerra is a series of models that vary in capacity, performance, and connectivity to cover a wide range of customer needs from the low-end market segment up to large enterprises.
There have been multiple generations of Celerra systems with different product designations. The current systems include the NX-4, NS120, NS-480, and NS-960 as integrated systems with NS-G2 and NS-G8 as gateways. Multiple model upgrades have been made since the initial release.
